BioSpring and Luxna Biotech Extend Strategic XNA Partnership to Include GuNA™ Amidites
June 15, 2026
Key Highlights:
- BioSpring and Luxna extend their existing agreement, enabling BioSpring to manufacture custom next-generation oligonucleotides incorporating Luxna’s GuNA™ amidites, in addition to Luxna´s AmNA™, scpBNA™, and 5′-CP™ amidites
- GuNA™ further expands the range of Luxna’s proprietary Xeno Nucleic Acid (XNA) chemistries already available through BioSpring’s oligonucleotide manufacturing services
- GuNA™-modified oligonucleotides can support enhanced nuclease resistance, improved target binding, reduced immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity; properties that provide key advantages for developing better efficacy and safer therapies targeting neurodegenerative diseases
Frankfurt am Main, Germany and Osaka, Japan, June 15, 2026. BioSpring GmbH (“BioSpring”), a contract development and manufacturing organization specializing in high-quality therapeutic oligonucleotides, and Luxna Biotech Co., Ltd. (“Luxna”), a biotechnology company developing oligonucleotide therapeutics based on its proprietary Xeno Nucleic Acid (XNA) technology, today announced an expansion of their existing collaboration. Under the extended agreement, BioSpring can now manufacture custom oligonucleotides incorporating Luxna’s GuNA™ amidites, adding GuNA™ to the previously included AmNA™, scpBNA™, and 5′-CP™ chemistries.
The extension further broadens BioSpring’s ability to support biotech and pharmaceutical companies developing next-generation oligonucleotides with Luxna’s proprietary XNA chemistry. GuNA™ is part of Luxna’s XNA technology platform and is designed to provide beneficial properties for antisense oligonucleotide design, including enhanced nuclease resistance, improved base-specific hybridization, application of a positive charge to the oligonucleotide chain, reduced immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity.
By incorporating GuNA™ into BioSpring’s XNA-modified oligonucleotide manufacturing services, the two companies are expanding access to a broader XNA chemistry toolbox for biotech and pharmaceutical clients. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to enabling innovation in oligonucleotide design while providing clients with a reliable manufacturing partner for modified oligonucleotides.
“This extension is an important next step in our collaboration with Luxna,” said Dr. Hüseyin Aygün, CSO of BioSpring. “With GuNA™ now included, we can support customers with an even broader set of advanced XNA chemistries for the design and manufacture of modified oligonucleotides. This strengthens BioSpring’s role as a partner for innovative oligonucleotide programs.”
“We are pleased to expand our collaboration with BioSpring to include GuNA™,” commented Hideaki Sato, President & CEO of Luxna Biotech. “GuNA™ is an important part of our XNA technology platform, and its combination with 5′‑CP™ can further contribute to improved efficacy and safety in therapies targeting central nervous system diseases. This agreement allows more biotech and pharmaceutical companies to explore its potential through BioSpring’s trusted oligonucleotide manufacturing services.”

About Luxna XNAs Technology
Luxna XNAs Technology collectively means an innovative nucleic acid group of AmNA™, scpBNA™, GuNA™ and 5’-CP™ originated in Professor Obika’s laboratory at the Osaka University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bioorganic Chemistry. Luxna XNAs Technology could make available ASOs with high activity and low toxicity, by taking advantage of its characteristics of strong binding to mRNA and/or reduced immune response.
About Luxna Biotech
Luxna is a biotech founded to develop safer and more effective oligonucleotide therapies (OTs) for practical use using the drug discovery platform, called LuxiAP™, based on modified nucleic acids originated in Professor Obika’s laboratory at Osaka University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bioorganic Chemistry at Osaka University. Our purpose is to bring OTs for patients with difficult-to-treat diseases. We actively collaborate with several pharmaceutical companies in developing new and effective OTs as well as advancing our own.
