The BioSpring® System
The BioSpring® system is designed to offer a constrained joint implant which is permanently fixed to the bone. Since the implant offers internal stability, it is particularly useful in rheumatoid arthritis, where the ligament structures are often lacking. The joint implant system consists of two bone anchored titanium screws and a constrained joint.
The joint has two coned pins which fit into the head of the titanium screws. The joint is pre-flexed in 25 degrees, in order to be able to achieve a suitable resting position after the implantation procedure. The joint implants are intended for implantation in the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) or in the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints. The joint implants are therefore manufactured in two versions. For the MCP joint the extension range is 10 degrees, the flexion range is 90 degrees and the lateral deviation is about 15 degrees. For the PIP joint the lateral deviation is limited to 2 – 4 degrees.
The size of the constrained joint is 11 mm width, 6 mm height and the length is 7 mm.
The titanium screws are available in three different lengths, 15 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm. The diameters of the implant screws are available in three different sizes, 3 mm, 4 mm and 5 mm. All the screw sizes can be attached to the same joint.
All implants in the BioSpring® System are CE approved and delivered sterile.
